RECREATION & LEISURE
CAC recognizes that the ability to independently and competently engage in recreation and leisure activities is a key element of a meaningful and quality adult life. Our students are exposed to a variety of fun, age-appropriate recreation opportunities every day, and are taught to select and pursue the activities that most interest them. In this way, individual interests and talents are honored, explored and expanded on, while restrictive interests are systematically broadened to develop students’ recreational repertoires. We teach students to participate in socially valid ways by learning to play commonly-recognized sports and games according to the standard rules. We strongly emphasize mature social skills and values such as being an active team member, showing good sportsmanship, taking turns, supporting others and enjoying the activity as much as the outcome. We also support students in managing their individual down-time in constructive and enjoyable ways that are not disruptive to others.
